The ACB breaker, also known as the air circuit breaker, is an electrical switch that can interrupt the current flow in a circuit when a fault occurs. It operates using the principle of magnetic attraction. When a fault current flows through the breaker, it generates a strong magnetic field that attracts an armature. This action trips the mechanism, causing the contacts to separate, interrupting the current flow. The ACB breaker is equipped with a thermal-magnetic trip unit. This unit combines both thermal and magnetic sensing elements to detect both overload and short-circuit conditions. The thermal element senses the heating effect of the current, while the magnetic element senses the sudden increase in current due to a short circuit. Both sensing elements work together to trip the breaker in case of a fault.
