RCCB: A Vital Component in Ensuring Electrical Safety
Electrical safety is a crucial aspect of our daily lives, and one of the key components in ensuring this safety is the Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB). Also known as the leakage current circuit breaker or the residual current operated circuit breaker, RCCB plays a vital role in protecting individuals and equipment from the hazards of electrical faults.
RCCB is designed to detect and interrupt the flow of residual current in a low-voltage circuit. Residual current refers to the current that flows through an unintended path, such as through a person or a faulty appliance, rather than through the neutral line back to the source. When this current exceeds a predefined threshold, usually 30 mA (milliamperes), the RCCB trips the circuit, disconnecting the power within 0.1 seconds. This rapid response time is crucial in minimizing the risk of electric shock and reducing the potential for damage to equipment. What makes RCCB unique is its ability to detect even small imbalances in the current flow. These imbalances can be caused by various factors, including damaged insulation, faulty wiring, or human contact with live parts. By monitoring the current flow and tripping the circuit when it detects an imbalance, RCCB effectively prevents these faults from causing harm.
